Fish react to the influence of the moon in a similar way to, for example, insomnia in humans. For anglers, fishing according to the lunar calendar is therefore also a factor that can lead to a successful bite.
The best fishing success can be achieved when the moon is waxing. Our lunar calendar indicates this with three green fish symbols. We recommend paying particular attention to the daytime or evening hours, as this is when the fish are feeding.
Avoid days with a waning moon. This is marked with a red fish symbol in our lunar calendar for anglers. The fish are very sluggish during this time.
In the other phases, fishing success depends on the form of the fish on the day. We mark these days with two yellow fish symbols in our lunar calendar.
The moon goes through various phases as it orbits the earth. Due to the different angles of incidence of the sun's light on the moon, the moon appears in different forms of light in the sky. These phases are called lunar phases.
The moon takes about 29.5 days to orbit the earth once and thus has the same position in relation to the sun as at the starting point. These 29.5 days are called the synodic month.
A general distinction is made between the new moon, waxing moon and full moon waning moon. The new moon, the full moon and the two crescent moons are the main phases. There is no simple and precise way of calculating the phases of the moon, as many orbital disturbances have to be taken into account. For our purposes - the hobby of fishing - the approximate prediction is absolutely sufficient.
Fishing during the waxing moon is particularly favorable, as the fish become active and look for food in the morning and evening hours. The chance of fishing success is highest here. This is marked by three green fish symbols in the fishing calendar.
Fishing when the moon is waning should be avoided. The fish become sluggish on these days. Fishing success is therefore lower, but of course not impossible. We mark these days in the fishing calendar with a red fish symbol.
When fishing at night, the special behavior of the fish is important for fishing professionals. Fishing under a full moon differs significantly from the usual fishing strategy. Fish such as Pikeperch often stay close to the surface of the water during a full moon and lie in wait for their prey. This is due to the increased food intake of the fish during a full moon. You should therefore not fish on the bottom during a full moon.
